Actor Lee Hee-jun is making waves not just in front of the camera, but behind it too. The versatile star has been officially invited to the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival as both a director and lead actor.
🎬 Dual Invitations: Director + Actor
Lee's second directorial film, Rectangles and Triangles, has been invited to the Korean Cinema section of the festival. The film delves into long-buried family conflicts that rise to the surface during a tense gathering.
It follows his 2018 autobiographical short Byeonghoon's Day. With Rectangles and Triangles, Lee proves once again that he's not afraid to explore raw, personal themes through a cinematic lens.
🏠 Tight Spaces, Big Emotions
The film was shot in a real villa, a confined space that heightened the dramatic tension. Festival organizers praised Lee for "drawing powerful, high-density performances from his cast, despite the spatial constraints."
🎭 As an Actor: 'Gyul-le-Gyul-le'
Lee is also returning as an actor in Gyul-le-Gyul-le, directed by Go Bong-soo. It's a heartfelt, humorous exploration of the complexities of human relationships. The film reunites Lee with Go after their 2019 collaboration Humidity Alert.
📅 Meet the Director in Person
Lee will attend the opening ceremony, audience Q&A sessions, and other official events, sharing behind-the-scenes insights about both projects.
The 26th Jeonju International Film Festival runs from April 30 to May 9, across venues in Jeonju's Film Street district.
