After two years away, EXO's Kai is back—and he's ready to prove that every moment of his military hiatus was worth the wait.
On April 21, Kai held a powerful showcase for his 4th mini album 'Wait On Me' at Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin, Seoul. EXO's leader Suho hosted the event, showing strong support for his groupmate's return.
"It took a long time for me to stand in front of you again," Kai said. "But I'm back with an album that shows how much I've grown. I'm nervous like it's my debut again, but excited."
🎧 A 7-Track Comeback with Limitless Vibes
Kai's new mini album 'Wait On Me' features seven tracks:
- Title track:Wait On Me
- Adult Swim
- Walls Don't Talk
- Pressure
- Ridin
- Off and Away
- Flight to Paris
💥 Title Track: 'Wait On Me'
A bold Afrobeat-inspired pop song, 'Wait On Me' mixes hot and cool energies.
"It's catchy from the first listen," said Kai. "It's sultry and rhythmic, and the restrained vocals make it even more powerful."
He performed with 10 dancers, delivering a layered, cinematic performance. The signature choreography uses the palm and fingers to depict the word "wait"—a visual cue as memorable as the beat itself.
🌊 'Adult Swim': The Opposite Mood
Released ahead of the album, 'Adult Swim' gave fans a playful and breezy side of Kai.
"I honestly wondered if the song suited me," he laughed. "It's light, cute, and refreshing—so it's the perfect contrast to the title track."
🧭 Rewriting "Kai Style" After Military Service
Since completing his alternative military service in February, Kai said his perspective on music—and himself—has shifted.
"I realized I don't want to be stuck in one image. I started this album with a fresh mindset, aiming to just do what feels right."
Preparing the album was both emotional and exciting:
"For two months, I couldn't wait to get on stage again. Every day felt long, but the anticipation kept me going."
Looking back on his past, Kai noted:
"There's not a genre I haven't tried. Maybe that's my strength—constantly exploring and evolving. That's the version of me I want to show from now on."
🎤 More Than Music: YouTube, Tours, and Fan Love
Kai's comeback isn't limited to music. He's also ventured into YouTube variety shows to connect with fans on a deeper level.
"Being on different platforms helps introduce more people to my performances," he explained.
He'll also kick off a solo tour next month, visiting 10 cities including Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Jakarta, and Singapore.
"Honestly, I just want to use the tour as an excuse to meet fans all over the world," he smiled.
"The stage is where I belong—and I've prepared eye-catching, ear-pleasing performances."
🎁 As for surprises?
"EXO members danced to our medley during their concerts," he teased. "I've got something extra planned too."
❤️ The Comeback Fans Deserve
"Truthfully, I think I missed the fans more than they missed me," Kai said. "We'll see whose love is greater during this comeback."
His goal? To create lasting memories and reward fans who waited patiently through his hiatus.
"Of course chart success would be nice, but more than that, I want fans to feel this album was worth waiting for," he said with a smile.
