Authorities have reassigned the police team in charge of the case involving YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won, 28), aiming to ensure fairness and efficiency in the ongoing investigation.
On April 21, the police held a regular press briefing at their headquarters in Naejadong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. During the session, reporters raised questions regarding several high-profile cases—including Tzuyang's complaint against Garo Sero Institute's Kim Se-ui.
📂 Case Reassignment Confirmed
"The case has been completely reassigned to a new team of investigators," police announced.
"We are committed to a fair and swift investigation, and have made these changes to eliminate any doubts about bias."
Currently, Seoul Gangnam Police Station is handling four separate cases related to Tzuyang. Of these, three are criminal complaints filed by Tzuyang, now under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Division 2. The countersuit from the opposing party is being managed by Investigation Division 2.
⚖️ Concerns Over Fairness Spark Changes
The reassignment follows controversy surrounding Tzuyang's refusal to continue her police interview on April 16, citing concerns over investigative bias.
Tzuyang's legal representative, attorney Kim Tae-yeon, stated:
"We felt the lead officer was showing favoritism toward the defendant, Kim Se-ui. A request for that officer's dismissal has been submitted."
Police acknowledged the tension without offering details:
"We regret that there was misunderstanding between parties. The reassignment is meant to address fairness concerns and offer a more comprehensive perspective."
📌 Case Background
Tzuyang filed charges against Kim Se-ui for five offenses:
- Violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (spreading fear)
- Coercion
- Criminal intimidation
- Violation of the Stalking Punishment Act
- Disclosure of confidential work-related information
Gangnam Police had previously dropped or dismissed all charges against Kim. However, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office overturned that decision last month, requesting further investigation.
🧾 Civil Suits Continue
Separately, Tzuyang is pursuing civil lawsuits for damages against YouTubers "Gu Ja-yeok" and "Jujak Inspector" for defamation and threats. The second court hearing is scheduled for May 12.
