Veteran actress Yum Hye-ran is set to return to the big screen in My Name Is, a new historical drama shedding light on Korea's painful past. The film officially kicked off production on April 1, starting with a solemn visit to the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park.
🕊️ Remembering the Jeju 4.3 Incident
The film My Name Is centers on the Jeju 4.3 Incident—a tragic historical event that left deep scars on the island and its people. The cast and crew, including director Jung Ji-young, honored the victims with a memorial at the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park before filming began.
They also visited the Jujeong Factory Detention Center and filmed traditional rituals held to honor the victims. The movie's first official scene was shot on April 3, marking the start of principal photography.
🎥 Plot & Direction
The story follows Jung-soon (played by Yum Hye-ran), a woman on a journey to recover her lost memories—only to confront the haunting past she tried to forget. The film was selected through a national screenplay contest focused on the Jeju 4.3 incident.
Veteran director Jung Ji-young, known for critically acclaimed films like Unbowed, Black Money, and The Boys, takes the helm once again, continuing his legacy of tackling institutional injustice and historical truth.
💫 Yum Hye-ran's Return to Jeju
Yum Hye-ran portrays Jung-soon, a survivor of the Jeju 4.3 massacre who carries its pain and silence. This marks her second project set on Jeju Island following her role in Netflix's When Life Gives You Tangerines (폭싹 속았수다), further showcasing her emotional depth.
📍 Filming Across Jeju Island
The film will shoot extensively across the island, with key locations including Seogwipo, Hallim, and Jocheon. To authentically capture the 1998 time period, several scenes will be filmed on specially constructed sets.
Director Jung said, "We aim to showcase Jeju's iconic beauty while telling a story that reclaims the true name of the Jeju 4.3 tragedy. I hope this film sparks more conversations and remembrance."
My Name Is is currently slated for a 2026 theatrical release.
