[ⓓINTERVIEW] "We want to win 1st place!" — IZNA's Bold Rookie Confidence

[Dispatch = Intern Reporter Lee Ah-jin] "We really want to win 1st place!"

Bright and confident, the girls of IZ*NA didn't hesitate when asked about their goals. They're aiming for the top of music charts and music show wins — and dreaming even bigger, with aspirations to one day conquer the North American market.

The members are 100% convinced their dreams will come true. Even during vocal practice, they act out award show scenes, passing imaginary microphones and giving mock 1st-place acceptance speeches.

"We practice saying, 'Thank you!' to each other like we just won 1st place. We also switch parts to see how it feels. Ultimately, we dream of becoming artists who can one day win a Billboard or GRAMMY award."

IZNA has returned, brimming with confidence. Their debut track "IZNA" introduced their bold identity — now they're showcasing a trendier, more sentimental side with fresh and dreamy energy.

In a recent round interview at a café in Gangnam, Seoul, the group sat down to talk about their comeback and introduce their first digital single "SIGN," aiming to leave a strong impression with their unique charm.

"IZ*NA is our identity"

IZ*NA was formed through the survival program I-LAND 2, where talented and charismatic girls earned public recognition and built a solid fanbase even before debut.

Their debut track "IZNA," released in November last year, left a strong first impression with its hip and chic concept. "IZNA really defines who we are," said Sarang.

The song resonated particularly well with young students. "My cousin teaches elementary school students and sent me a video of them dancing to our choreography," Jeongeun shared with a smile.

"My younger sibling is in elementary school, so I get direct feedback. One student told me she dreamed of being an idol and was inspired after watching I-LAND 2. She said my passion made her a fan."

— Sarang

But no debut is perfect. Regardless of the public's response, the members reflected on areas they felt could've been stronger. They felt they couldn't fully showcase the skills they had honed during the survival show.

"At our debut, it felt like we didn't really know what we were doing on stage. Performing in front of fans felt unfamiliar, and I was so nervous I couldn't fully enjoy the moment."

— Coco

"SIGN is fresh and sentimental"

Just four months after debut, IZ*NA returned with "SIGN," a song that reflects their growth. With a clear emotional arc, it explores vulnerability and youth — and highlights a softer, more polished sound.

"If 'IZ*NA' was rhythmic and bold, 'SIGN' is more sensual and emotional. It shows a new side of us — something brighter and more sentimental."

— Jimin

They paid special attention to vocal performance.

"Unlike our debut track, this one required more softness and nuance. Emotional delivery was key — even a single line had to carry the right feeling."

— Sarang

"Our members have such diverse vocal tones. That contrast really stands out in this song. I found myself constantly complimenting the others on their unique colors."

— Sarang

Their performance skills have also evolved — they've become sharper and more expressive.

"There's more choreography that highlights clean lines. There's a move where we form a flower shape, and as the chorus builds, the choreography becomes even more dynamic."

— Jimin

"We tried to interpret each chorus differently through our performance. Even while recording, we paid close attention to our facial expressions to bring the song to life."

— Mai

"IZ*NA's color is a rainbow"

Having already proven their talents through a survival show and debut activities, the members threw themselves into this comeback with total focus. That's why they're overflowing with confidence.

"In survival shows, you're constantly pushing yourself, rehearsing your part until it's perfect. That's become a habit for us. Even now, we feel a deep sense of responsibility for our roles."

— Jimin

"There were a lot of things we learned during our debut. That gave us confidence to do even better this time. Through constant practice, our teamwork has also gotten stronger."

— Coco

"Some might think this comeback happened quickly, but for us, it felt like a long wait. We really wanted to show our fans — NA-YA — a new side of us."

— Mai

"There were things we couldn't do during our debut, things we regretted. This time, we wanted to get everything right. We practiced a lot — and now, we're confident."

— Coco

This is just the beginning of IZ*NA's journey.

"If we had to describe IZNA in one word, it would be 'rainbow.' Each of our seven members has a distinct charm, and together, we create beautiful synergy. Through 'SIGN,' we hope to share even more of our color with the world."
