IU just delivered one of the most memorable performances of her acting career — and fans can't stop talking about it.
On March 28, Netflix's emotional series When Life Gives You Tangerines aired its final episode, and IU took to the press to share her thoughts. The singer-actress pulled off a stunning dual role, playing both mother Oh Ae-soon and daughter Yang Geum-myung.
🎬 One actress, two powerful lives
Spanning 16 episodes across four chapters, IU portrayed the two characters with striking depth and nuance. From the first narration to the final shot, her performance was raw, resonant, and deeply human.
In Chapter 4, IU especially shined. Her portrayal of Geum-myung's journey through childbirth — from the pain to the first cry of her newborn — brought viewers to tears.
She captured every emotional beat: the desperate glint in her eyes, the exhaustion in her body, the quiet strength in her words. Whether comforting her parents or trying to stay strong after a shocking diagnosis, she brought out every facet of her character with grace.
Her attention to detail — in tone, gesture, and expression — made Ae-soon and Geum-myung feel like real people, not just roles. It's hard to believe this was IU's first-ever dual role.
💬 "A drama that will stay with you"
Reflecting on the experience, IU said:
"When Life Gives You Tangerines is a story filled with the voices of many generations. It was an honor to portray both young Ae-soon and Geum-myung."
She added:
"I hope this drama is remembered as something warm and comforting, just like the people of Dodong-ri who quietly shared their support and love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
📺 What's next for IU?
IU is set to return soon with a brand-new project — 21st Century Queen Consort, promising to show a whole new side of herself once again.
