"You can't stop after Episode 1" β€” Karma brings next-level thriller to Netflix 🎭

Netflix's new series 'Karma' is bringing a bold new twist to the crime-thriller genre β€” one so addictive, once you hit play, you won't be able to stop.

At a press conference held on March 31 at JW Marriott Dongdaemun, the main cast β€” Park Hae-soo, Shin Min-a, Lee Hee-jun, Kim Sung-kyun, Lee Kwang-soo, and Gong Seung-yeon β€” joined director Lee Il-hyung to officially introduce the series.

πŸ”₯ 6 people, 6 twisted fates

Karma follows six seemingly unrelated characters who become entangled in a web of dark fate β€” one that tightens with every choice they make.

Director Lee Il-hyung, known for films like The Prosecutor and Remember, makes his first foray into series with this high-stakes thriller.

"Each character is driven by their own desires. Once they get pulled into this spiral of fate, there's no escape," he explained.

Based on a webtoon of the same name, Karma was initially written as an 8-part series but was refined into a tight 6-episode structure, with each episode led by a different character's story.

"The biggest challenge was keeping viewers hooked from start to finish. We designed it so that once you start, you'll want to click 'Next Episode' without even thinking," said Lee.

πŸ“Ί A script you feel

The cast couldn't stop raving about the script β€” calling it gripping, intense, and like nothing they'd done before.

  • Park Hae-soo, who plays the "Witness":
"I've rarely come across a story this extreme and well-structured. I was drawn in instantly."
  • Shin Min-a, starring as "Joo-yeon":
"My character doesn't appear until later, but I was already locked in from the first few pages. I had to do it."
  • Lee Hee-jun (as "Gil-ryong") praised the decision to have each episode revolve around a single character.
  • Kim Sung-kyun (as the Loan Shark) loved how simple connections turned into haunting fate.
  • Lee Kwang-soo, who plays "Glasses Guy," joked:
"The script was so intense, my hands were literally sweating on the pages. I had to reprint it multiple times." πŸ˜…

🧩 Twists, trauma, and tangled truths

A sneak peek of the main trailer and character cuts revealed a dark, tension-filled world.

  • Park Hae-soo's Witness stumbles upon a suspicious car accident.
  • Lee Kwang-soo's character, a traditional doctor, is behind the wheel β€” with Gong Seung-yeon's Yu-jung in the passenger seat.
  • The two try to cover it up, while the witness demands hush money.
  • Shin Min-a plays a trauma-ridden surgeon.
  • Lee Hee-jun's character plans a murder to pay off debt, hiring Kim Sung-kyun's character to carry it out.

These stories start separately but soon collide in dark, shocking ways, with each episode ending on a cliffhanger.

⏳ All will be revealed in 6

"The key is watching how these six characters become bound by karma and how each twist unfolds," said director Lee.
"We want viewers to slowly untangle the threads β€” and only at the very end realize why it's called Karma."
"After Episode 1, you won't be able to stop," added Lee Hee-jun.
"I hope this becomes a form of comfort and escape for everyone going through tough times."

πŸ“Œ Release date

Karma drops April 4 at 4PM KST, only on Netflix. Set your reminder β€” it's going to be a binge-worthy ride.
