NewJeans' ambassadorship with Incheon Airport Customs is coming to a close—but that doesn't mean it's over just yet. The agency has confirmed that no replacement has been decided, shutting down rumors that another girl group is taking over.
🛫 "Contract Ends This Month—No New Ambassador Confirmed"
On March 27, a representative from Incheon Airport Customs told Dispatch,
"NewJeans' contract as promotional ambassadors ends at the end of this month. As of now, there is no successor chosen."
NewJeans was appointed as the agency's promotional ambassador in March 2024. The one-year contract is set to expire on March 31. The group participated as part of a talent donation, meaning they were not paid for the role.
📰 Rumors About Replacing NewJeans Are "Completely False"
Earlier that day, a media outlet reported that NewJeans' contract would not be renewed and that another girl group—possibly IVE—would replace them. It also claimed the NewJeans banners at the arrivals hall were being removed.
The Customs Office quickly denied those claims, stating:
"There have been no internal discussions about replacing the promotional ambassador. The NewJeans banners at the airport have not been taken down."
🤝 Renewal Still on the Table
The office is currently considering extending the contract.
"We plan to reach out to NewJeans' side before the contract ends," a representative said. "We'll review a potential renewal after discussion."
They also voiced frustration over premature reports, adding:
"We were caught off guard by the replacement rumors. It's created an awkward situation for NewJeans and their agency. If false reports continue, we may escalate the matter to the Press Arbitration Commission."
