NewJeans voices frustration over the latest court ruling that halted their independent activities, calling out the harsh reality of the K-pop system.
📌 NewJeans Opens Up in TIME Interview
On March 22 (local time), NewJeans sat down for an exclusive interview with TIME following the Seoul Central District Court's decision to side with their label ADOR.
"We're disappointed by the court's ruling," the members shared. "But we never expected the K-pop industry to change overnight."
They added, "What we're experiencing now is just another phase of our journey. Maybe this is the reality of Korea. That's why we believe change and growth are needed."
📌 "K-pop Sees Artists as Products, Not Humans"
In a bold statement, NewJeans criticized the industry:
"It feels like Korea is trying to turn us into revolutionaries. Agencies tend to treat artists more like products than real humans. They don't fully understand how serious this problem is."
Despite the setback, the girls plan to continue their creative journey. Member Haerin confidently stated,
"As NJZ, we're ready to show greater creative freedom and new goals. We're preparing captivating music and impactful performances for fans."
📌 Court Blocks Independent Activities—Legal Battle Continues
The court recently granted ADOR's injunction to block NewJeans from signing ad deals or performing without the label's approval until the main lawsuit's first trial is complete.
For now, NewJeans is legally restricted from independent activities but will still perform at the 'Complex Hong Kong' concert on March 23 as scheduled.
They also plan to appeal the injunction and fight back in the main lawsuit over their exclusive contract. The first hearing is set for April 3.
📌 What's Next for NewJeans?
This legal battle has sparked massive debate over artist rights in K-pop. Fans worldwide are closely watching NewJeans, now being hailed as voices for change in the industry.
