[Dispatch = Park Hye-jin] "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
This iconic line from Shakespeare's As You Like It is where Jennie's latest artistic journey begins. Through her first solo concert, she crafted a unique theatrical experience, showcasing a woman in love, a fearless explorer, the 'celebrity Jennie,' and the real Kim Jennie behind the scenes.
Jennie held 'The Ruby Experience' at Incheon Inspire Arena on March 15, celebrating the release of her first full-length solo album, Ruby. After captivating audiences in Los Angeles and New York, she wrapped up her tour in Seoul with a 70-minute performance that was all about 'Artist Jennie.'
"Welcome to 'The Ruby Experience'"—Jennie
Act 1 | Love
The excitement was palpable even before the show started. Fans lined the entrance with banners, danced outside to Jennie's songs, and filled the arena with cheers.
🌟 Star-studded audience: BLACKPINK's Rosé, actors Kim Ji-won and Lee Dong-hwi, BIGBANG's Daesung, Zico, P.O, GRAY, WINNER's Lee Seung-hoon, and NewJeans members were among the VIP guests. The influx of celebrities delayed the show by 10 minutes.
Jennie set the tone with a ballet performance to an intro track produced with FKJ, leading into the first song, 'Start a War.' Standing before a giant mirror, she sang while gazing at her reflection, fully immersing herself in the story.
She followed with 'Handlebars', swaying effortlessly to the drum-heavy rhythm. Jennie then presented remixed versions of 'Love Hangover' and 'Mantra', amplifying the storytelling in her performance.
In 'Love Hangover', she performed a push-and-pull dance sequence with male dancers, symbolizing the turbulence of love. 'Mantra' transformed into a fashion show-inspired spectacle, promoting female empowerment and confidence.
Act 2 | ZEN
This segment was all about attitude. Jennie, clad in bold, avant-garde fashion, took the stage for 'ZEN', a track defining the essence of self-love. Her choreography was commanding, and with each movement, flames erupted on stage, leaving fans in awe.
🔥 "I don't care about others' opinions—I am who I am." 🔥
She smoothly transitioned into 'Damn Right', embracing sensual R&B vibes. Under moody red lighting, she shed her jacket, moving with slow, controlled elegance.
Next came the world premiere of the 'Seoul City' MV. Jennie reenacted scenes from the video, portraying intimate moments in her home city—a performance that felt like a play within a play.
The highlight of the night was the back-to-back performance of 'Like JENNIE,' 'With the IE,' and 'ExtraL.' Jennie commanded the stage with high-energy rap verses and a 90s old-school hip-hop vibe, featuring a classic car as the backdrop.
The audience exploded with excitement when she raised her octave in the latter half, seamlessly transitioning into a dance break for 'ExtraL.'
Epilogue | Ruby
"Ruby, do as you like." Jennie whispered before stepping into the final act—a performance that revealed her truest self.
She opened with 'Filter,' kneeling on stage, delivering powerful high notes with a live band. This song conveyed her journey toward self-acceptance—"No filters, just me."
Her grand finale was nothing short of cinematic. Jennie sat at a grand piano, performing 'Starlight' with raw emotion, reflecting on the contrast between public perception and her true self.
The night ended with 'Twin', a stripped-down acoustic performance. Accompanied only by a guitar, Jennie's delicate vocals and quiet breaths filled the arena as the curtain fell.
🎭 A Theatrical Triumph
Jennie's 70-minute concert was a bold artistic statement, presenting all 15 tracks from Ruby with carefully crafted storytelling and visuals. While the show was visually striking, some fans wished for more interactions and personal moments in her first-ever solo concert.
💬 Jennie's heartfelt message:
"This is my first solo concert. It still feels like a dream. Everything is new, and I feel like I'm just beginning."
"While preparing this album, I learned so much about myself. Instead of focusing on perfection, I wanted to show the real, unfiltered me."
As fans cheered loudly, Jennie's eyes welled up with emotion.
"I promised myself I wouldn't cry, but seeing all of you here makes me feel so grateful and happy."
"Thank you for accepting me as I am and for listening to my story. I will continue making great music and striving to be a better person. Please keep watching over me!" 💎
