The 75th Berlin International Film Festival began its 11-day journey on February 14 (KST) in Berlin, Germany, with The Light, directed by Tom Tykwer, as the opening film.
Renowned Hollywood actress Tilda Swinton received the Honorary Golden Bear, an award recognizing her significant contributions to global cinema.
Korean Films Take the Spotlight
This year, seven Korean films have been officially invited to the festival, drawing significant attention.
- Hong Sang-soo's latest work In Water is competing in the main competition. However, his absence from the red carpet stirred speculation due to his partner, actress Kim Min-hee, reportedly being pregnant. Hong Sang-soo has been a regular at Berlinale since 1997 with The Day a Pig Fell into the Well and has received five awards at the festival so far.
Bong Joon-ho's 'Mickey 17' Steals the Show
Despite not being part of the competition, Bong Joon-ho's Mickey 17 has emerged as the festival's highlight, premiering in the Berlinale Special Gala section.
International media outlets like AP, Deadline, and Variety have labeled it the festival's most anticipated event.
- AP News: "Robert Pattinson will grace Berlinale for the special screening of Bong Joon-ho's Mickey 17, his first project following Parasite."
- Deadline: "The world premiere of Mickey 17 is one of the festival's highlights. Bong Joon-ho directs, and Robert Pattinson stars in this much-anticipated film."
