"We Grow, We Move Forward" – Melo Movie, A Youthful Tale of Love and Growth

Melo Movie follows the journey of four young adults who, while clumsy and imperfect, dream of both love and success. Through failures and setbacks, they support, heal, and grow together, experiencing life like scenes from a movie.

The driving force behind their journey? Cinema. Director Oh Choong-hwan explains, "Isn't life often compared to a movie? The romance, hardships, and serendipitous encounters we experience feel like scenes from a film."

The press conference for Melo Movie was held on the 12th at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square, attended by stars Choi Woo-shik, Park Bo-young, Lee Jun-young, Jeon So-nee, and director Oh Choong-hwan.

Known for Hotel Del Luna and Start-Up, director Oh teamed up with writer Lee Na-eun, who previously gained praise for Our Beloved Summer. While Our Beloved Summer became a buzzworthy project, its ratings fell short, but director Oh was determined to collaborate with Lee.

"Romance is always a daunting genre," Oh confessed. "But I love writer Lee Na-eun's work, so I had no hesitation." He added, "This is the first time I've worked on a project that reflects my own experiences and emotions so deeply."

Choi Woo-shik, who also starred in Our Beloved Summer, shared his excitement, "I know how unique and charming her writing is, so I couldn't pass this up."

A Story of Love, Loss, and Reunion
Melo Movie is a romance drama about 30-something couples who fall in love, break up, and meet again five years later to reconnect and rebuild.

Choi Woo-shik plays Go Gyeom, an aspiring film critic who dreams of mastering every film in existence. He meets Kim Movie (played by Park Bo-young), and their relationship blossoms into a cinematic romance.

"Go Gyeom is a straightforward guy," Choi explains. "Unlike my introverted character in Our Beloved Summer, Go Gyeom is extroverted and outspoken. When he needs help, he asks for it without hesitation. If my last character was an 'I' in MBTI terms, Go Gyeom is a big 'E'!"

In contrast, Kim Movie prefers a quiet life, avoiding the spotlight. However, her life begins to change when Go Gyeom enters the picture. "Her father loved movies so much that he named her 'Movie,'" Park Bo-young shared. "At first, Movie hated it—she felt like films always came first to her dad. But over time, she began to dream of becoming part of that world."

To portray the cynical Movie, Park Bo-young worked on lowering her naturally high voice. "I had a lot of discussions with the director to get the right tone," she said.

The couple's love story is anything but easy—fate brings them together, tears them apart, and reunites them unexpectedly. Choi Woo-shik described Go Gyeom as "persistent and never one to give up." Meanwhile, Park revealed that her character initially pushes Go Gyeom away. "I tried to portray her selfish side, thinking only about her feelings and ignoring his."

A Second Couple with a Realistic Love Story

The drama also features another couple—Hong Si-joon (Lee Jun-young), a struggling composer who believes he's a genius, and his longtime girlfriend Son Joo-ah (Jeon So-nee). After dating for seven years, the couple breaks up, only to meet again five years later when Joo-ah returns as a screenwriter, asking Si-joon to compose music for her movie.

Unlike the main couple's romantic vibe, their story is much more grounded and realistic. "It's like solving a tricky puzzle," Lee Jun-young said. Jeon So-nee added, "We never go straight toward each other; we're constantly taking detours. That's what makes it feel real."

Director Oh highlighted that the passage of time shapes the characters' emotional growth. "Five years later, each character has grown in their own way," he said. "Go Gyeom, however, remains the same." He thanked the cast for bringing depth to the characters, saying, "The actors truly carried this drama with their performances."

Why You Should Watch Melo Movie

Lee Jun-young described the series as "a warm story you can watch when you're feeling down and in need of comfort." Jeon So-nee added, "It's visually beautiful with great music, and despite the tough moments, you'll see our characters push through and find reasons to smile again."

Director Oh wrapped up by saying, "It's a perfect show to watch with loved ones—whether it's family, friends, or a significant other. Releasing on February 14, a symbolic date, feels meaningful."

Melo Movie premieres on February 14. Don't miss this heartwarming romance!
