Actors Joo Ji-hoon and Choo Young-woo are ready to take down injustice head-on.
Netflix's upcoming series "The Trauma Code" (written by Choi Tae-kang, directed by Lee Do-yoon) released character stills on the 9th, hinting at the fierce efforts of "Team Trauma" as they race against time to save patients during their golden hour.
The drama follows the story of Baek Kang-hyuk (played by Joo Ji-hoon), a genius surgeon who previously served on the front lines of war. He takes charge of a practically defunct trauma team and revives it with his unparalleled skills and determination.
Joo Ji-hoon transforms into Baek Kang-hyuk, a brilliant surgeon with a rugged appearance. In the stills, he is seen riding a motorcycle with his sun-scorched face, embodying a man who will stop at nothing to save lives, even if it means entering a war zone.
Joo Ji-hoon commented, "Baek Kang-hyuk is an unstoppable character with both skill and intellect. I felt exhilarated by his relentless fight against injustice — it was refreshing and felt like I was portraying a hero."
Choo Young-woo plays Yang Jae-won, a promising proctology fellow chosen by Baek Kang-hyuk to join the trauma team. As Kang-hyuk's first disciple and self-proclaimed "Slave No. 1," Jae-won transitions from an elite path to risking his life on the front lines, saving critically injured patients.
Choo Young-woo shared, "Jae-won is a character who grew alongside me throughout the filming period. I believe my personal growth naturally blended into Jae-won's development in the story."
Ha Young takes on the role of Chun Jang-mi, a senior nurse who has been steadfastly supporting the trauma team for five years, despite others avoiding it. Jang-mi is a highly skilled nurse with a strong sense of responsibility, providing unwavering support to both Kang-hyuk and Jae-won.
Ha Young explained, "Chun Jang-mi is a passionate nurse who does everything she can to save her patients' lives. At times, she also provides comic relief. I thought deeply about how to portray a character who can bring lightness to the intense medical scenes."
Yoon Kyung-ho portrays Han Yoo-rim, the head of the proctology department, who built his career through a mix of credentials and sycophancy. Yoo-rim's position is shaken by Baek Kang-hyuk's arrival, leading to constant clashes between the two characters.
Yoon Kyung-ho shared, "Han Yoo-rim is highly ambitious when it comes to promotions and success. The character undergoes significant changes due to certain events, and I focused on portraying his transformation from the beginning to the end."
Jung Jae-kwang plays Park Kyung-won, a resident in the anesthesiology and pain management department. Kyung-won is a hidden talent whom even Baek Kang-hyuk acknowledges. He quietly supports the trauma team and plays a vital role in their success.
Jung Jae-kwang explained, "Kyung-won is a person with a strong sense of principle, doing his job based on his convictions. To reflect his personality, I chose to grow out my hair on Joo Ji-hoon's advice, which helped visually convey Kyung-won's character."
"The Trauma Code" will be available on Netflix starting on the 24th.
