Actor Park Gyu-young makes a striking appearance in Netflix's Squid Game Season 2 (directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk).
Released on December 26 last year, Squid Game Season 2 introduces Park Gyu-young as Noeul, a defector from North Korea and a former soldier, joining the cast in a pivotal role.
Noeul works as a mascot at an amusement park, desperately searching for the daughter she left behind in the North. Her struggle leads her to a dead end until she receives a card from the game organizers.
The shocking twist is that Noeul joins the game not as a participant but as a staff member. Instead of the iconic green tracksuit, she dons the pink uniform of the guards.
Park Gyu-young explained, "Noeul lives with unbearable guilt for leaving her child behind, yet clings to a small hope of finding her. It's the only reason she continues to live."
Her reason for participating in the game is unique. "She believes she must peacefully send off those like herself, who have no hope in life," she added.
Viewers are now drawn to the game from both the participants' and the staff's perspectives, further expanding the Squid Game universe.
Meanwhile, Squid Game Season 2 follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he reenters the game and confronts the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), setting new records for viewership.
