BTS member Jungkook, currently serving in the military, held a surprise live broadcast with fans, attracting an astounding audience of over 20 million viewers, showcasing his immense popularity.
On December 18 at 11:39 PM, Jungkook went live on the fan community platform Weverse with the title "Missed You a Lot." The broadcast lasted approximately two hours, wrapping up at 2:00 AM on December 19, during which around 20 million viewers tuned in.
On December 19, POP CORE, a pop culture news outlet, reported "Jungkook's surprise live stream surpassed 20.2 million viewers, setting a record for the highest viewership for a personal live broadcast on Weverse. This figure even exceeds the 16.9 million viewership of the most recent Grammy Awards ceremony."
Jungkook enlisted in the military on December 12 last year and is currently serving as a Corporal in the Army's 5th Infantry Division. His discharge date is scheduled for June 11 next year.
Appearing in a beanie, Jungkook greeted fans warmly during his surprise live broadcast, saying, "I checked, and I was told I could do a live stream, so I decided to go live while on leave today."
He shared updates about his current status in the military, saying, "I'm currently a Corporal, Level 4. I think I'll be promoted to Sergeant, Level 1, by March next year. I've also been working out every day." Expressing his longing for fans, he added, "I came on because I missed you. I really wanted to tell you how much I missed you."
When fans asked about his duties as a military chef, Jungkook responded, "I can now cook most Korean dishes, but the process is different because it's all done in bulk. I mostly do 'boiled dishes.'" He admitted the challenges of cooking on such a large scale, saying, "I try my best to make it taste good, but it's not easy. Bulk cooking is really difficult."
During the broadcast, Jungkook delighted fans by taking song requests and performing them live. His heartfelt renditions included V's "Winter Ahead,"Rosé's "APT.,"Park Hyo-shin's "Goodbye,"Zion.T's "Snow,"Block B's "Where Are You," and Roy Kim's "Let's Stop Here."
