Idol-Turned-Actors Yim Siwan and Jo Yu-ri Reunite as Ex-Lovers in Squid Game 2
On December 5, Netflix Korea released a character introduction video for Squid Game 2, offering a glimpse into the complex dynamics between Yim Siwan's and Jo Yu-ri's characters, Myung-ki and Joon-hee.
Yim Siwan, who plays Myung-ki, described his role: "Myung-ki, also known as 'Jin Gi-myung-ki' on YouTube, was involved in a crypto scam, losing a massive amount of money and causing significant losses for his subscribers. Now a fugitive, he joins the game as a last resort."
Jo Yu-ri, playing Joon-hee, Myung-ki's ex-girlfriend, shared: "Joon-hee is a strong and independent character who joins the game to secure money to survive. Inside the game, she reunites with her ex, Myung-ki, who gave her bad investment advice." This narrative has heightened anticipation for their storyline in the high-stakes competition.
Both Yim Siwan and Jo Yu-ri share idol backgrounds, making their on-screen romance even more intriguing. Jo Yu-ri previously attended the VIP premiere of Road to Boston to publicly support Yim Siwan, showcasing their off-screen camaraderie.
Yim Siwan, who debuted as an actor in 2010, is celebrated for his versatility, spanning various genres. While his romance roles have been relatively rare, he has delivered memorable performances in dramas like The King Loves, Run On, and Summer Strike. Known for his chemistry with idol-turned-actresses such as Yoona (Girls' Generation), Seolhyun (AOA), and Kang Hye-won (IZ*ONE), his pairing with Jo Yu-ri in Squid Game 2 has sparked curiosity.
Jo Yu-ri, on the other hand, is a newcomer to acting. After her lead role in the 2022 web drama Mimicus, Squid Game 2marks her official debut in a major production, drawing significant attention to her performance.
Fans can witness how Myung-ki and Joon-hee's relationship unfolds when Squid Game 2 premieres on Netflix on December 26.
