ILLIT has been honored with the Newcomer Award at a prestigious Japanese music awards ceremony.
On November 21, Belift Lab announced, "ILLIT has been selected as a recipient of the Newcomer Award at the '66th Shining! Japan Record Awards' (hereafter 'Japan Record Awards')."
The 'Japan Record Awards,' organized by the Japan Composer's Association, is one of the country’s most prestigious music award ceremonies, first held in 1959. It holds a long-standing tradition and reputation.
This marks the first time in 13 years that a K-pop girl group has received the Newcomer Award at the 'Japan Record Awards.' The last to win were Girls’ Generation and 2NE1.
The recognition is exceptional as ILLIT has not yet made their official debut in Japan. They have been promoting with their Korean releases, including the mini album *Super Real Me* in March and *I’ll Like You* last month.
Their success stems from the popularity of their Korean albums in Japan. The title track *Magnetic* from their first mini-album surpassed 100 million streams in record time for a girl group single.
ILLIT expressed their gratitude, saying, "Our goal this year was to win a Newcomer Award, and we’re so happy to have achieved this dream. We will continue to grow as ILLIT."
Meanwhile, ILLIT is set to perform at NHK’s *Kōhaku Uta Gassen*.
