SEVENTEEN's Seungkwan has been appointed as a promotional ambassador for Jeju.
On the 19th, Seungkwan attended the appointment ceremony held at the Jeju Communication and Cooperation Center in Ildo-dong, Jeju City, marking his first step as Jeju's representative ambassador.
During the ceremony, Seungkwan expressed, "I have always been proud of being a Jeju native since childhood. Being appointed as Jeju’s ambassador is deeply meaningful, and I am truly grateful."
He continued, "I’ve always worked with the hope of giving positive energy and hope to Jeju residents. I will strive to promote both Jeju and SEVENTEEN to the world."
Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon remarked, "It’s a pleasure to see a globally renowned artist from Jeju serve as its ambassador. We look forward to Seungkwan acting as a cultural diplomat."
Following the ceremony, Seungkwan participated in Jeju’s hometown love donation campaign, contributing to the conservation of the Jeju Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins. "I’m happy to share my love for my hometown," he said.
Debuting with SEVENTEEN in 2015, Seungkwan has highlighted Jeju in various ways, including appearances on variety shows, photoshoots, and commercials filmed on the island, helping introduce Jeju to global fans.
He also filmed SEVENTEEN’s "God of Music" special performance video in Jeju, which was presented at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in November last year, garnering attention.
In a speech at the event, he emphasized that "Jeju is the first place in the world to be simultaneously designated in three natural environment categories by UNESCO."
In September, Pledis Entertainment signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jeju provincial government to boost K-pop content linked to Jeju, pledging mutual collaboration.
