“I came to see the apartment under reconstruction.” (Comment on YouTube)
BLACKPINK’s Rosé is creating a storm with her new song *APT.*, which has even brought a 42-year-old song with the same title back into the spotlight.
Rosé released *APT.* on October 18 as a pre-release single from her first full-length album, *rosie*. The track is a duet featuring Bruno Mars.
The song has dominated various music charts. According to Spotify’s latest data, *APT.* entered the Daily Top Songs Global chart at No. 3 and has maintained the top spot for eight consecutive days.
The music video is also enjoying massive success, surpassing 100 million views on YouTube within five days. As of the morning of October 28, it had reached 173.52 million views.
What stands out is the unexpected boost for a song with the same title. The original *Apt.* by Yoon Soo-il, released 42 years ago, re-entered Melon’s daily chart at No. 756 on October 26.
The resurgence isn’t limited to the Melon chart. On Genie’s chart, *Apt.* became the top trending search, leading to a dramatic increase in daily streaming numbers.
This trend occurred in tandem with the release of Rosé’s song. During the week following its release (October 18-24), the original song saw a 190% increase in streams compared to the previous week.
A compilation video of comments on *Apt.*, posted by the KBS YouTube channel *Again Gayo Top 10*, has also gone viral, garnering over 100,000 views within two days.
Many commenters mentioned discovering the older song thanks to Rosé’s *APT.* Some offered witty remarks, calling it “the best-reconstructed apartment at the moment.”
Yoon Soo-il is aware of the renewed interest in his song. During an appearance on MBC Standard FM’s *Son Tae-jin’s Trot Radio* on October 23, he shared his thoughts on the phenomenon.
He praised Rosé and Bruno Mars’s creativity, saying, “I think it’s wonderful to see the same theme of ‘apartment’ resonate globally.”
He added, “Music trends have changed a lot over 40 years. While Rosé’s song is certainly addictive, back then, my song held the No. 1 spot in karaoke rooms for ten years.”
Yoon Soo-il’s *Apt.*, originally released in the 1980s, remains iconic. It is considered a pioneer of city pop and is still frequently used as a cheer song at professional and college sports events.
