Netflix will release the second season of the series “Gyeongseong Creature” on July 27th. The production team released the top three viewing points and stills from season 2 ahead of the release. They teased the storyline of Ho Jae (played by Park Seo Jun) and Chae Ok (played by Han Sohee).

First, the producers pointed to the deepening narrative between Ho Jae and Chae Ok as the first viewing point. They pointed to the ensemble of the two characters, which spans from Gyeongseong in 1945 to Seoul in 2024. He explained how they met across time.

In 2024 Seoul, Chae-ok is working as a missing person's detective under the name Eunjebi. She meets Ho-jae at the scene of one of her assignments. Ho-jae is the vice president of Boo-Kang Corporation, a company that will take on any job as long as it pays.

Chae-ok is confused when she sees Ho-jae, who looks exactly like Tae-sang (Park Seo-joon). Ho-jae is not just a stranger to Chae-ok, either. She feels emotions she can't understand. “To express Ho-jae's confusion, I thought more about his facial expressions,” Park said.

The stills boasted dark colors. It shows Tae-sang at the Boo-Kang Corporation in 1945 and Chae-ok standing lonely in the crowd. Then the veil was lifted to show Ho-Jae and Chae-Ok hugging in 2024.

The second viewing point is the expanded story and intensified suspense. “Season 2, like Season 1, is about people facing their monstrous desires,” the producers explained.

“A bizarre serial killing reminiscent of Gyeongseong's disappearance in 1945 takes place. Ho-jae and Chae-ok's harrowing journey to find out the truth of the case shows the end of a vicious relationship from the past.”

The new villains, Captain Kuroko (Lee Mu-saeng) and Seung-jo (Bae Hyeon-seong), show that Kyung-sung's nightmare hasn't ended after decades. The laboratory of Jeon Seung Pharmaceutical is reminiscent of the basement laboratory of Ongseong Hospital in Kyungsung.

The unidentified old woman in a kimono in the stills reveals an air of mystery. “The dynamic action of the characters' desperate struggle to end the bad blood from the past is also unfolded,” said a representative.

The final viewing point shared by the production team is the production design. As the space changed from Gyeongseong in 1945 to Seoul in 2024, director Jung Dong-yoon took a new approach to production planning for season 2.

First, he wanted to continue the old building structure and atmosphere that remained in the modern structure, so he added or transformed art and props to show the continuity of the era.

The director explains, “Boo-Kang Corporation built the office as if it were similar in appearance to the Geumokdang in Gyeongseong, but remodeled inside. I wanted to capture the changes over the years,” he explains.

Season 2 of “Gyeongseong Creature” will be set in Seoul in 2024.
