A YouTuber who maliciously slandered girl group IVE's Jang Won-young (20) by posting false videos on the Internet and earning hundreds of millions of won has been found to have committed similar crimes against other idol group members.

The Incheon District Public Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 1 (Deputy Chief Prosecutor Yoo Jeong-ho) announced on March 3 that it has indicted YouTuber A (35, female) on charges of defamation and insult under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

YouTuber A is accused of insulting two female idol group members from July 2022 to January last year by uploading videos that degraded their appearance on her YouTube channel, “Taldeok Prison,” which she operated.

In August 2022, she is also accused of defaming a male idol group by posting a false video on her YouTube channel claiming to be a fan management practice of a male idol group and interfering with the work of the agency.

The female idol group members who are the victims of the new charges are not affiliated with IVE.

YouTuber A was first indicted in May for defamation for posting slanderous videos on the Internet from October 2021 to June last year that criticized Jang Won-young and seven other celebrities.

Prosecutors analyzed his YouTube channel account and found that the YouTuber A had earned 250 million won ($150,000) over two years from June 2021.

YouTuber A made and distributed false videos claiming that “Jang Won-young was jealous of a fellow trainee's debut,” or that “other celebrities also engaged in sex trafficking or plastic surgery.”

“We will continue to strictly respond to so-called 'cyber lekka' crimes,” said a prosecutor, ”and we will thoroughly prepare for the trial to ensure that Mr. A receives the punishment he deserves.”
