G-Dragon (real name Kwon Ji-yong) will serve as the honorary chairman of the JusPeace Foundation, which will begin its activities in earnest.
At the inaugural event held at the Yeouido IFC in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 5th, JusPeace Foundation Chairman Choi Yong-ho (Chief Happiness Officer of Galaxy Corporation), Foundation CEO Oh Hee-young, Foundation Trustees Lee Seung-seop (Professor of Engineering at KAIST Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy), Ahn Jin-hoon (CEO of MSC Brain Consulting Group), Foundation Auditor Cho Won-hee (CEO of Law Firm DLG), Ahn Young-no (Director of Galaxy Corporation), and lawyer Kim Soo-hyun, who is representing G-Dragon, attended the event, as well as more than 50 experts from various fields who will accompany the foundation's public service projects, donation collection, and public relations.
At the ceremony, Choi Yong-ho, Chairman of the Foundation and Chief Happiness Officer of Galaxy Corporation, spoke about the purpose of the foundation, saying, "G-Dragon wanted to establish the foundation because we believe that the message of JusPeace, which combines Justice and Peace, is what the world needs right now. We are explorers who use technology to make impossible dreams come true." "Galaxy Corporation will work with G-Dragon to help him become a noble artist who contributes to the public good through the foundation. We believe that G-Dragon's activities will be in line with the dignity of a luxury artist, and we will help the artist to go beyond being an artist and influence the public for good."
Next, Oh Hee-young, CEO of JusPeace Foundation, took the stage and said, "After announcing the establishment of the foundation at a press conference in December last year, we have been holding advisory meetings, interviews with experts, dialogues in various fields, and preparing for the business since January this year." "JusPeace Foundation has been pondering on how to carry out public service projects in specific areas that are essential to society and are not covered by other organisations," she said.
"On the one hand, we will contribute to the development of copyright culture, which is directly related to the cultivation of creative talents, and on the other hand, we will aim to contribute to society through artistic talents," he said, explaining the foundation's specific projects, including the public use of copyright, sponsorship of creative artistic talents, support for creators who practice public service activities, art therapy and mental health through art, and support for musical therapy for youth drug addicts.
As for the name 'JusPeace', Professor Choi said, "I thought it was a very good name. Justice and peace, it's a very nice combination. Peace is the purpose and justice is the means or method or philosophy to achieve peace. "If you give out chairs of the same height regardless of whether you are tall or short and talk about 'fairness', it is only 'fair'. If we want to be a peaceful society, we need to be a society where it is okay to give a slightly higher chair to a short person and a slightly lower chair to a tall person, so that everyone can have a fair chance," he said, expressing excitement about the foundation's role.
G-Dragon, who chose the name JusPeace, a combination of justice and peace, said, "Even if it's not justice in a big sense, it's justice in our lives when injustices and misunderstandings are corrected." "There are a lot of people in the world who are injusticed, and they need someone who believes in them and stands by them, but they don't have that, so they have a harder time," he said.
"Artists don't just make art, they can live a life that brings happiness and peace to the world. Beyond giving love and peace to the world through music, I will help more people through the JusPeace Foundation," he said, revealing his plans for the foundation's future activities.
