According to military sources on April 13th, BTS’ J-Hope is scheduled to enlist to serve his mandatory service in the army next week. The K-pop star will be enlisting as an active-duty soldier in the Gangwon Province A division next week on April 18th. After completing five weeks of basic military training, J-Hope will be assigned and dispatched at the end of May.
Earlier, on April 1st, BTS' agency Big Hit Music announced the news of J-Hope's enlistment through a fan community. On April 8th, one week later, J-Hope shared a photo on Instagram of his new short haircut.
Big Hit Music will not be holding any separate event on the day of J-Hope’s enlistment for safety reasons.
Under the current ‘Military Service Act’, BTS members are in a state where their enlistment is postponed until the age of 30 as “excellent individuals in the field of popular culture and the arts." This is based on the fact that they were awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 2018 by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of national prestige.
However, although J-Hope has not yet reached 30 years old, the star announced last month that he had canceled deferring his enlistment and would be following procedures for enlistment.
With this, J-Hope will be the second member of BTS to be enlisted, after Jin who is serving in the army since December last year.
It is known that other BTS members will fulfill their military service plans sequentially, following Ji naan J-Hope.
For member Suga, he has reported been acknowledged to serve as a social worked instead of an active-duty soldier according to results from the military enlistment examination.
