On April 4th, US Billboard announced the latest chart (as of April 8) to reveal that BTS’ Jimin topped the main single chart ‘Hot 100’ with his title track ‘Like Crazy’ from his solo album ‘Face.’
According to Billboard charts, Jimin is the first-ever Korean solo artist to top the ‘Hot 100’ chart. His title track ‘Like Crazy’ marked the 66th song in Billboard history to enter the ‘Hot 100’ chart and rocket straight to number one.
Jimin conquered two main Billboard charts. Previously, 'Face' took 2nd place on the main album chart 'Billboard 200'. The pre-released song 'Set Me Free Part 2' ranked 30th on the 'Hot 100'.
During the count-up from March 24th to 30th, ‘Like Crazy’ recorded a cumulative number of 254,000 for online downloads and CD sales, 10 million streams and 64,000 radio broadcasts.
Jimin expressed his gratitude on Instagram with screenshots of his ranking and a short caption which read "Love u all♥.” Jimin also thanked fans on 'Weverse' by saying, "Army, this is so surreal I don’t know how to express my feelings and gratitude.”
During a live streaming broadcast Jimin said, “I am lost for words but I know that this is all only possible because it’s BTS and because ARMYs always have our backs.”
He added, “I am even more proud of you ARMY, and I am proud of BTS and everyone who has supported us along the way to make such a huge success. It is such a happy moment.”
Jimin ended, "Thank you very much for today. I love you. I will continue to work hard and will make sure I will be a proud artist for all of you.”
The support from the other BTS members could also be seen online. Suga left a comment reading, “Park Jimin, the no.1 singer on Billboard’s ‘Hot 100.’ This is so cool!” J-Hope added, “Jimin, you are beyond cool and you make me proud. All of us are shedding tears. You worked hard for this. Congratulations!”
‘Face’ is an album that tells the story of Jimin fully facing himself both as a human being and as a new solo artist. Jimin actively participated in the overall production of his debut solo album. Jimin worked together with RM for songwriting his track ‘Like Crazy’, honoring the title of being a songwriter for the no. 1 song on the ‘Hot 100’ chart. This record marks the 4th time for RM.
The title track 'Like Crazy' is a synth-pop song. Jimin's attractive voice stands out with the intense synth sound and drum sound. The star expressed, "I paid a lot of attention to the emotions when sensing in order to convey and express the sorrow.”
Jimin has proved his ability as an all-rounder artist. 'Face' sold out 1.02 million copies in just the first day of release, breaking the record on Hanteo Chart as the first K-pop solo artist to become a million seller on the first day of release.
