On December 12th, Netflix announced the production of a new series ‘The Girl Downstairs’, which is based on the popular webtoon series ‘Lee Doona!’ (literal translation). The director and cast list have been confirmed.
Director Lee Jung-Hyo, who directed 'Crash Landing on You', 'Romance is a Bonus Book' and 'The Good Wife', will take the lead in directing. The female lead will be played by Suzy, and the male lead will be played by Yang Se-Jong.
‘The Girl Downstairs’ is a romance drama that portrays the story of an ordinary college student, Won-Jun, who meets former K-pop idol Doona at a share house.
The original webtoon gained popularity for its delicate yet dynamic emotional rollercoaster, which follows the storyline of a fairytale romance.
Suzy takes on the role of Lee Doona, who is the main vocalist of a popular idol group. At the peakof her career, she suddenly announces her retirement and embarks on a new adventure amongst college students at a share house.
Yang Se-Jong takes on the role of Lee Won-Joon, who is an ordinary college student who later becomes the warm ‘home’ for Doona to rest and take shelter.
An official from the drama said, "’The Girl Downstairs’ will give viewers butterflies in their stomachs as if you have traveled back in time to your twenties.”
