On October 7th, girl group Loona’s member Chuu appeared as a guest to speak on Channel A's 'Oh Eun-Young's Golden Clinic’.’
On this day, Chuu was diagnosed with Smile Mask Syndrome by Dr. Oh Eun-Young. The Smile Mask Syndrome like its name, is not being able to express any hardships as if it is covered by a mask. During the session, Dr. Oh and other hosts interviewed Chuu with various questions.
When Chuu was asked who she communicates with when she is having a hard time, Chuu replied, "I have never been able to overcome hardships because I had nobody to confide in. I just chose to close my eyes and sleep to pass it away.”
When asked if she communicates with family members such as her mother, Chuu responded by saying she has difficulty in talking to her mother.
Chuu explained, “one time I told her I was very upset, she told me I should just endure everything. Since then, I did not contact her for six months because it left me traumatized.”
When Dr. Oh empathized with Chuu, the star shed tears for a while and said, “I was so upset at the time. All I wanted was some sort of reassurance and comfort.”
Dr. Oh advised, "It is natural to feel upset when in a difficult situation. However, you need to express natural emotions in order to do the things you want consistently.”
On this day, Dr. Oh referred to the concepts of 'social masks' and 'multi-personas'. She emphasized that in order to lead a healthy life both psychologically and physically, one must express various feelings and difficulties and ensure that the feelings do not get trapped inside.
