The girl group 'New Jeans' boasted explosive popularity as they set a new sales record for their debut album titled ‘New Jeans.’
The album was released on August 8th and according to Hanteo Chart on the 9th, the album sold 262,815 copies on the day of its release. This is the highest sales volume on the first day for a K-pop idol debut album since September 2019.
In addition, another new record was also set. New Jeans is the first album to have sold over 200,000 copies on the first day of release alone.
The presence of New Jeans predominantly stands out on music charts as well. Among the title tracks, 'Attention' and 'Hip Boy' were ranked 1st and 2nd for seven days in a row on 'Spotify' Korean Daily Top Song Chart. On the 'Melon' daily chart last week, ‘Attention’ made it to ninth place.
New Jeans managed to rocket to top 10 in the shortest amount of time out of all the girl group debut songs released in three years.
The number of video viewings also displays the popularity of New Jeans. Stage performances shown on Mnet's 'M Countdown', KBS-2TV's 'Music Bank' and SBS-TV's 'Inkigayo' hold the highest number of views for stages performed on the same day. In particular, the stage video for 'Hip Boy' from 'M Countdown' had 110,000 views as of 10:00 (KST) today.
